Our History

  1. 1969

    In 1969, GST signed a distributor agreement with Toyota Motor Sales USA.

  2. 1972

    By 1972, the company had 35 associates and had sold 5,000 cars and trucks through 14 dealerships. GST also completed construction on its 33-acre processing site at the Port of Houston.

  3. 1979

    GST won the Triple Crown in 1979 by holding the #1 spot in import car, truck and combined import sales in the United States. By the year’s end, 65,826 total vehicles had been sold.

  4. 1986

    In 1986, GST completed and opened its Parts Distribution Center (PDC) near Sealy, Texas.

  5. 1994

    By 1994, GST broke the 100,000 mark in total vehicle sales. Having outgrown its processing center at the Port of Houston, GST opened its 80-acre Vehicle Processing Center in North Houston, which is served by both rail and transport trucks.

  6. 1998

    With vehicle sales steadily increasing, GST outsold Toyota Motor Sales USA. Inc. in import car market share in 1998.

  7. 2000

    With record sales in 2000, GST sold 11% of all Toyotas sold in the United States.

  8. 2003

    In 2003, GST recorded more than 149,000 total vehicles sold and helped name Houston’s best sports and entertainment venue – the Toyota Center. Since opening the Toyota Center has set a new standard for sports and entertainment, becoming one of the premier live entertainment venues in the nation. Laid over the span of six city blocks, Toyota Center is home to the NBA’s Houston Rockets. Toyota Center also plays host to the nation’s top concerts and touring shows.

  9. 2005

    In 2005, GST was named the #1 privately held company in Houston by the Houston Chronicle’s Chronicle 100 list. GST was also listed at #40 on Forbes’ list of America’s Largest Private Companies. By the end of the year, more than 185,000 vehicles were sold through 145 dealerships.

  10. 2006

    In 2006, GST’s Vehicle Processing Center (VPC) expanded to 150 acres and GST sold 226,960 vehicles by the year’s end. GST opened a new Dallas-area training facility that provides technical and sales training for our associates and those from the dealerships we support. In 2006, GST was listed at #45 on Forbes’ list of America’s Largest Private Companies.

  11. 2007

    In 2007, GST was listed at #65 on Forbes’ list of America’s Largest Private Companies.

  12. 2008

    In 2008, GST was named the #3 privately held company in Houston by the Houston Chronicle’s Chronicle 100 List. In 2008, GST was listed at #53 on Forbes’ list of America’s Largest Private Companies.

  13. 2009

    In 2009, GST was named the #4 privately held company in Houston by the Houston Chronicle’s Chronicle 100 List. In 2009, GST was listed at #68 on Forbes’ list of America’s Largest Private Companies.

  14. 2010

    In 2010, GST was named the #5 privately held company in Houston by the Houston Chronicle’s Chronicle 100 List. GST was listed at #76 on Forbes’ list of America’s Largest Private Companies.

  15. 2011

    In 2011, GST was named the #2 privately held company in Houston by the Houston Chronicle’s Chronicle 100 List. GST was listed at #60 on Forbes’ list of America’s Largest Private Companies.

  16. 2012

    In 2012, GST was named the #1 privately held company in Houston by the Houston Chronicle’s Chronicle 100 List.

  17. 2013

    In 2013, GST was named the #1 privately held company in Houston by the Houston Chronicle’s Chronicle 100 List. GST was also listed in 2013 at #51 on Forbes’ list of America’s Largest Private Companies. Morgan’s Wonderland is the world’s first ultra-accessible family theme park designed with special-needs individuals of all ages in mind and built to be enjoyed by everyone. In 2013, GST announced a partnership with Toyota Field, a soccer complex adjacent to Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio, to generate funds for Morgan’s Wonderland through the San Antonio Scorpions NASL soccer team. GST also began a partnership in 2013 with Toyota Stadium and Soccer Center, which is a complex that boasts a 145-acre multipurpose sports and entertainment facility located in Frisco, TX, and is the home for the FC Dallas MLS team. Included in the facility is the 20,500 seat state-of-the-art pro soccer stadium and 17 tournament-sized fields, which draws more than 1 million visitors each year.

  18. 2014

    In 2014, GST was named the #1 privately held company in Houston by the Houston Chronicle’s Chronicle 100 List. GST was listed at #48 on Forbes’ list of America’s Largest Private Companies.

  19. 2015

    In 2015, GST was named the #1 privately held company in Houston by the Houston Chronicle’s Chronicle 100 List. GST was listed at #42 on Forbes' list of America's Largest Private Companies.

  20. 2016

    In 2016, GST was named the #1 privately held company in Houston by the Houston Chronicle's Chronicle 100 List.
